Assistant Director - Health Science Center Employee Relations

The Assistant Director for Employee Relations oversees the day-to-day functions of the UFHR Employee Relations Health Science Center (HSC) Satellite Office. The position is responsible for the planning, coordination, and effective operation of the HSC Satellite Office. Moreover, the Assistant Director ensures that human resource service delivery is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Employee Relations and all UFHR strategic objectives and is aligned with the needs of the Colleges of Medicine-Gainesville and Jacksonville, Dentistry, Nursing, Public Health & Health Professions, and Pharmacy, as well as Animal Care Services.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Provides strategic and tactical leadership and guidance in the planning, execution, and evaluation of all employee relations functions for the UFHR Employee Relations Health Science Center Satellite (HSC) Office. Provides leadership and guidance to HSC Satellite Office staff, including timely and meaningful performance feedback, coaching, and development.
  • Consults with and provides guidance to college deans, unit administrators, HR liaisons, and managers on a variety of employee relations and human resource management issues. Establishes and maintains a partnership with key representatives of each college by recommending appropriate actions for resolving faculty and staff performance and conduct issues. Also works with leadership on resolving complex issues related to conflict resolution, investigations, coordination of EAP support for employees in need, and management of workplace violence situations.
  • Supports the Employee Relations performance management initiatives within the HSC and is proactive in supporting the development and growth of a performance-based culture. Provides the guidance and coaching necessary to effectively build leadership skills in managing workforce interactions among HSC managers. Is proactive in identifying workforce engagement opportunities to improve and enhance the working environment and leadership capabilities throughout the HSC. Takes initiative in developing and implementing appropriate performance management action plans. Serves as a member of the Employee Relations Management team and, as such, will be involved in non-HSC ER projects and initiatives and may be asked to represent the ER leadership team at non-HSC events.

Leads in the design, development, and implementation of employee relations initiatives and special projects specific to the HSC environment. Provides leadership and consultation for projects that may involve organizational development strategies, change management and succession planning. 

Requirements

Master’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.
