The Area Employee Relations Manager is a strategic role based at one of our facilities in Minnesota (Owatonna, Mankato or Faribault).  This role will oversee the Labor & Employee Relations (LER) function for ten (10) manufacturing facilities across three (3) Divisions located in MN(3), WA(2), WY, NE and WI(3) of which two (2) are non-union and eight (8) are union.


We are looking for an experienced and proactive individual who possesses excellent communication, leadership, motivational and employee relations skills with the ability to influence others across all employee levels in a manufacturing and corporate environment. Specific responsibilities include:


  • Assist with the development, implementation and oversight of Employee Relations/Human Resource strategies, training, interventions, HR management and development, including organizational development.
  • Advise and assist Corporate, Divisional and Plant Management Teams in the proper application of Company HR programs, policies, procedures and compliance with all local, State and Federal employment laws.Oversee and assist Plant Management Teams' pro-active promotion of a positive employee relations environment in order to maintain a union free operation.
  • Investigate and seek resolution for employee issues/complaints.
  • Labor relations/grievance management at union facilities.
  • Coaching/consulting plant management on LER matters.
  • Interpreting and administering employee handbooks and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).

Job Requirements - the ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in HR or related discipline (commensurate experience may be considered). Master's Degree and/or PHR/SPHR a plus.
  • 6+ years of generalist HR experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years managing multiple locations in both a union and non-union environment - Employee Relations (including Union Free strategies) and Labor Relations/grievance administration.
  • Significant experience in the development and implementation of organizational effectiveness/development and training, and HR strategic planning.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Preferred


This position has no direct reports but will partner with Division and Plant HR.  Travel requirements are approximately 60% travel: daily, weekly, overnight and occasional weekends (including every few years for contract negotiations committee participation).
