Ball State University’s Office of Employee Relations is accepting applications for an Affirmative Action and Employee Relations Specialist.


Position function:  Compile, prepare, and implement the University’s annual Affirmative Action (AA) Plan, analyzing metrics, reporting and plan recommendations, and facilitating training and outreach efforts; provide support with employee relations matters.


Ball State University is located in Muncie, Indiana, approximately 45 miles northeast of Indianapolis. Approximately 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students enroll each year in diverse academic programs on and off campus.  Our students come from all Indiana counties, all 50 states and 68 countries to pursue knowledge in seven academic colleges offering 190 undergraduate majors, 130 undergraduate minors, 140 graduate programs and 200 study abroad programs.

Minimum qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.  At least three years of professional experience in affirmative action, human resources, or related field, with at least one year experience in affirmative action program implementation, reporting, and monitoring; evidence of a strong professional commitment to equity, affirmative action, diversity, and creating an inclusive culture; technical skills to analyze and manipulate data and prepare reports.  Knowledge of EO/AA laws and regulations; ability to collaborate with a diverse population; commitment to creating a workplace culture of inclusive excellence; strong leadership skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment while being detail-oriented and exercising excellent judgment and problem-solving skills; strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.


Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in human resources, management, labor relations, business, paralegal, political science, data analysis, industrial organization, or related field.  Affirmative action program administration experience in higher education setting; experience with faculty search/hiring processes; paralegal work experience; additional EO/AA, employee relations, and/or related human resources recruiting and training experience.  Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze and communicate EO/AA data and concepts; SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
